Have you discovered The Barr Brothers yet? I can’t decide which song from their self titled debut I like best. The album is full of ‘em – 11 to be exact – and they’re varied and creative and sound like indie+blues+folk+harpisty (what? yes.). Listen, watch and weep.

Thanks hearya for the discovery. I love you guys! *fist to chest*

I love John Grant. When I saw him perform last month with Midlake, he said he wanted to capture a sense of “F*ck you, I hope you end up in a wheelchair.” His music reflects all that you don’t want to admit you feel during deep, true heartbreak.

The Queen of Denmark came out in 2010. Almost no one I know talks about it, but I hope you give the whole thing a listen. It will make you laugh, mebbe even sniffle. But it won’t change you’re life. It’ll just be straight – well, or gay – about it.

"IT'S ONLY A PASSING SHOWEH!"

"IT'S ONLY A PASSING SHOWEH!"

I wandered along Columbia Road today to check out the flower market. I love this new find. The shops sell the same pots, ceramic mugs and trendy cups as those at Whole Foods and Clifton Nurseries, but at cut rates. The road itself spills over with healthy plants, trees and cut flowers – all at a fraction of the cost of the nurseries I’ve visited – and the florists bellow their specials: “BUNCH O’ ROSES A FIVEH!” “ENTIRE FLAT OF PANSIES EIGHT POUNDS!” I bought white Danish roses and a small lemon tree before the rain drove me into a shop off the road.

The Wine and Stationers is small. Very small. But delightful with tasty sandwiches, bubbly wine and juice, and friendly staff – the gent in the image chatted with me for a few minutes about the recent riots and the socioeconomic situation that triggered them. I sat in a small converted mud room on a velvet settee next to the garden.

I’m home again, the rain has stopped, and I’ll be hitting the proms tonight with some of the office ladies. Lovely day in London.
